For a while there have been little neighbors who look like Ding and Maple living here.

Their names are Clementine, Twig, Penny, Hazel, Ginger and Ruby!

We hear that they 're going to move in with us, and we'll all be living in a new mansion!! But we're not sure about the two new BIG neighbors living next door to our mansion. We've seen the new big neighbors, which Blossom and Fern call goaties. They seem to want to play with us, but we definitely do NOT want to play with them or get anywhere close!

I did it. I finally laid my first egg! It is sooo beautiful and also very pudgy just like me!

MARMALADE'S SISTER?

Fern and Blossom were very excited because Pepper laid her first egg and it looked a lot like Marmalade's eggs. Marmalade was one of their favorites. She died last summer and they still miss her.

Ever since Pepper was a chick they thought she looked like Marmalade. Now her eggs look like Marmalade's too. WOW! We are all wondering if she is Marmalade's sister.

THE COLD

We were scared when these things came out to check on us. Then when they said hello we knew that it was Fern and Blossom! I was happy that it wasn't something else coming. I guess they were as cold as we are!

It is so cold that right when we lay an egg it freezes! And every hour our water freezes too!

For a treat, Fern and Blossom brought me in to their house an I got to listen to Beethoven on the radio!

THE FIRST SNOW!

Yesterday we got to free range. All of a sudden we noticed little white things started falling from the sky. They looked like little downy feathers. They were really cold on our wattles! All of us Littles got kind of nervous but Dottie told us what it was so then we didn't worry.

Dottie has seen two winters. She told us that the snow was deep and we couldn't free range as much but she used to know a hen named Tuesday who loved to go sledding.

When we woke up this morning there was a lot of snow. Now I want to go sledding!

We are very excited about Saturday because it is going to be our first Halloween!

Pepper and I are going to be pieces of licorice. I am going to be a chunk of licorice, and Pepper is going to be a stick of licorice.

Pansy and Zinnia are planning to be marshmallows. Pansy is going to be a big marshmallow, and Zinnia is going to be a small marshmallow.

Petunia and Poppy want to be bats. Petunia is going to be a white bat, and Poppy is going to be a regular black bat.

Ding and Maple decided to be pumpkins. Ding is going to be an orange pumpkin, and Maple is going to be a more red pumpkin because she is a red.

Even the Bigs are going to be there. Dottie is going to be a snowflake, Lemondrop a Hershey's kiss, and Stormy a spider. Daisy, that old rooster, will be a clown because he has so many colorful feathers.

One morning I woke up, and it was sooo cold! When I looked around our house all the little chickens looked like big chickens! They were all puffed up. When I tried to stand up, I fell down on my face.

When Fern and Blossom came to check on us, they said, "Look their feathers are all puffed up. That keeps them warm like our down comforters keep us warm."

Last Sunday, Ding laid her first egg!

But ever since then she has been acting strange. Fern and Blossom's daddy, Birch, thought Ding might have an egg stuck. He picked her up and carefully stuck his bare finger up her bottom to feel for an egg. There was not an egg up there, but now she is much perkier.

I came home with five other chicks.

Poppy is the smartest of all of us. Once she squeezed through our cage three times! because she wanted to be out so much.

Zinnia is one of the smallest and likes to creep up on the white furry thing with long whiskers.

Pepper is my FAVORITE snuggle buddy. Everybody doesn't like her, but I LOVE her.

When we came home, there were two Rhode Island Red chicks. Sugar, the oldest of the two, is a little bit bossy but is very sweet and is a GREAT big sister. (And she has a really deep voice.) Fern and Blossom call her Ding because when she was little she had a big dingleberry and every time she pooped it got a little bigger.

The next morning when I woke up, I looked around and I saw a BIG furry thing in a cage. It had two long ears, a pink nose and hopped all around. It didn't look very friendly, so I went and stood close to my new friend. We were both worried, but then two ENORMOUS creatures came. They were so gentle. When they held me in their hands, I felt like I was warm in my shell again. Somehow I knew I was okay!

Ever since I hatched out, I was looking for my mother hen and these two creatures seemed to treat me like they were my mothers. Their names were Blossom and Fern.

When I hatched out, I was with a bunch of other little Mes! We were all scared and crying peep peep peep! I wanted to go back in my warm little shell.

But instead we were all put in a big box.

We rattled around for a long time. (I got a little dizzy!) After a whole day and night something big picked the box up and put us down in a really bright place. I saw another little fluffball who looked friendly so I stayed close to her and we peeped about how we didn't know what would happen next. We both hoped it was something good!
